Please share! #heatwarning Remember to stay hydrated and take breaks from the heat. While our bodies are meant to cool down by sweating, sometimes we aren’t able to do this effectively, especially in excessive heat. Seniors and children under the age of five need to limit time outside today. Also, anyone with other conditions like heart disease, a fever, sunburn and poor circulation should be aware today.

Karly Eller, OTRL, works in the ADL kitchen at Kaiser Rehabilitation Center. The ADL kitchen is where patients go to work on activities of daily living. Karly shares how she brings meaning and purpose to each therapy session. “We work with patients on daily living activities such as cooking, cleaning and laundry. We practice getting things in and out of the refrigerator, loading and unloading the dishwasher, hanging up clothes and putting clothes away. All of the basic things we do every day to help take care of ourselves or other people, that we take for granted.” “I like the interaction and relationship development with my patients the most. You are with the same people every day so you really get to know them. One of the things I always try and do is ask every patient, ‘What do you like to do? How do you spend your time?’ Then I try and incorporate those activities into our therapy sessions to give the exercises meaning to the patient. We aren’t just standing or reaching for plastic cones, we are participating in a desired occupation or leisure task of the patient’s choosing.” Interested in joining the team at Kaiser Rehabilitation Center at Hillcrest?
